Objective:

To teach social studies to secondary school students and to work with this population in a variety of academic and extracurricular activities.

Experience

World Studies Teacher, Montgomery County Public Schools, Earle B. Wood Middle School (August 2002 to Present)
 
Teaching 4 sections of GT-cluster 8th grade World Studies (American History) and one section of on-level 7th grade World Studies (Oceania, Asia, Europe, and Russia).
 
 Permanent Substitute Teacher, Montgomery County Public Schools (August 2001 to June 2002)
 
T2000 Teaching Fellow,Takoma Park Middle School, Takoma Park, MD, August 2001 to January 2002
 
Responsibilities during teaching internship included: developing a Unit on Ancient Egypt for sixth grade World Studies and creating many related materials, teaching five classes (two GT and three on-level), working with the Media Specialist to locate resources for student projects, grading all assessments related to the Unit, contacting parents and/or consulting with the sixth grade team and other staff regarding student academic progress and behavior, enforcing classroom and school expectations for academic honesty and behavior, and conducting study sessions.
 
T2000 Teaching Fellow,Takoma Montgomery Blair High School, Silver Spring, MD (January to March 2002)
 
Responsibilities during teaching internship included: developing a Unit on Individual Rights and Responsibilities for the tenth grade National, State, and Local Government course and creating many related materials, teaching five classes (one NSL Govt and five ninth grade U.S. History), grading all assessments related to the Unit I developed, consulting with the SPARC team and other staff regarding student academic progress and behavior, enforcing classroom and school expectations for academic honesty and behavior, and conducting study sessions.
 
Adjunct Professor/Lecturer, Montgomery College (January 1998 to December 2001)
 
Responsibilities included: developing syllabi and course materials, selecting textbooks, teaching sections of 10-30 students, grading all assessments, consulting with students during office hours and by appointment, arranging for field trips and other off-campus activities, counseling students about future study and careers in the field of history, and departmental tutoring. Recognized as Distinguished Adjunct Professor in the Spring of 1999.
 
Teaching Assistant for African History and Latin American History, University of Maryland (August 1994 to May 1997)
 
Responsibilities included: helping develop course materials, teaching sections of 25 students, proctoring and grading all assessments, consulting with students during office hours and by appointment, lecturing upon occasion, counseling students about future study and careers in the field of history, and tutoring.
