Other readers have noted my nods to artists and bands ranging from Santana to Sarah McLachlan to Saliva.
Okay, so my musical tastes are a little eclectic. But what do you
expect from a fan of a TV show that has featured both Rasputina and Michele Branch?
Music is as essential to me as air or water. What I listen to has a major influence on what I write. And vice versa.
Here's a look at what is cycling its way through the
CD player in my car.
|
3/25/05: Six months ago, someone --a crackhead passing through or one of the local juvvies-- smashed my car
window. The only thing of value in my ancient Corolla were the two sunshade holders crammed with about 60 CDs. I had (stupidly)
been keeping just about anything I loved listening to in the car because I was going through particularly intense mood swings
and never knew whether I'd need HIM or Clannad or the Fugees for my morning commute.
Since then, I've mostly lacked the emotional energy to go about replacing my collection. However, a recent sale at Target
inspired me to binge out. Among the 20 discs that I came home with: Breaking Benjamin's "We Are Not Alone". The track "So
Cold" has been running on repeat for days, but I'm hoping to get around to the rest of the disc by the end of the week.
10/26/03: Am I the last person in the world to see the video for Dido's "White Flag"? Or find out about the
cameo by a certain actor? I just caught it this morning on VH1. Ironically, I pretty much heartily dislike Dido, but have
been increasingly fond with "White Flag" after hearing it on the readio this month (being a Scorp, I can't resist an ode to
obsessive but doomed love). Totally ignorant of DB's role, I kept thinking, "This song is going to inspire a lot of fanfic."
9/30/03: Back to Staind's 14 Shades of Gray. But also Kate Bush's The Sensual World, Jane's Nothing Shocking,
and The Counting Crows.
7/19/03: Cold's "Year of the Spider" has taken over my car CD. My daughter likes "Stupid Girl" and I'm rather
obsessed with "Whatever You Became".
7/10/03: I think I should have worn a disguise when I bought the Thompson Twins Greatest Hits CD. The staff
at the Foggy Bottom Tower Records will never look at me the same again!
7/5/03: Swooning over Dave Navarro has taken up a lot of my music-oriented play time recently, but I've also
been delving into the nether regions of my CD collection for Rasputina and the Toadies. Heading back into Ch. 5 of "The Devil's
Workshop", I've had "Possum Kingdom" on repeat for about an hour straight.
6/18/03: Staind's "14 Shades of Grey" was
on my Mother's Day wishlist. It was well worth the wait.
I can't say the same for Radiohead's latest. "Hail to the Thief" largely left me confused (and
on the second round, headachy)
4/11/04: You can tell what kind of week it's been when I spend 15 minutes searching for The Smiths's Louder Than Bombs
before I left the house this morning.
However, it is Friday and the start of Spring Break, so I proclaim
my afternoon commute the "Shakira Hour". Nuttin' but rump-shakin', heart-breakin' tunes all the way home.
I know. Bi-polar.
Yes, they do have lovely meds for that now. However, I'd rather abuse my sound system.
3/30/03: A few months ago when the Daredevil
Soundtrack came out, I loved "Bring Me to Life" (which has gotten so much radio play) by Evanescence.
However, I wasn't much impressed with the band's other
track on that CD, "My Immortal". But their CD, "Fallen" was on sale at Tower Records this week, so I plopped down my
$12.99. I highly recommend this CD if you like broody music (music to brood to?).
I still don't care for "My Immortal", but I've listened
to the first 3 tracks of "Fallen" so much that I hear them when the CD player is off. And I caught myself singing
"Tourniquet" as I tucked my 10 year-old in!
How come Amy and the guys haven't been on BtVS yet?
2/28/03: Reader DBBD recently emailed me
to ask what I was listening to these days. My answer was Seether. And thus was born the fanfic I'm currently writing -- Fine
Again. AUS6-7, this fic is the story of Willow in rehab in Wales. Look for the first 3 chapters sometime in April/May
2003.
